In 2005, Beth found herself facing a parents’ worst nightmare:
the cancer diagnosis of her beautiful 10-year-old daughter,
Mary-Kate. Amazingly, eleven months earlier Beth and her
family struggled through the illness and death of 9-year-old Sarah,
daughter of their dearest friends. Because of these unique
circumstances, Beth displayed remarkable clarity and resolve on the
day her daughter was diagnosed. Shocked, but not
paralyzed, Beth used all her hard-earned knowledge to manage the
crisis, which resulted in dramatically reducing moments of regret
since her daughter’s death in 2006.
Recognizing the positive impact her remarkable life-experience
has had on her own healing, Beth now shares her story and coaches
family support professionals in the use of her strategies.
Beth is a licensed social worker with a master's degree from the
University of Cincinnati. She is a member of the National
Association of Social Workers and the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social
Workers. She serves on both the Parent Advisory Board of StarShine Hospice
and Palliative Care and the End of Life Committee at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical
Center. She advocates tirelessly on behalf of parents with
children facing life-limiting conditions, as well as the
professionals who treat them.
Beth lives with her husband Dave in Loveland, Ohio. They
have a son Matt, currently attending the Ohio State University.
